Physicians seeking to recommend medical marijuana in Ohio must have an activeย Certificate to Recommend (CTR) from the State Medical Board of Ohio. On HelloMD, licensed practitioners provide Telehealth consultations. Itโ€™s fast, easy and private and for a limited time costs only $179. If youโ€™re not approved, you donโ€™t pay.

A typical consult takes between 15 to 30 minutes. Please be prepared to have your consultation in a private, well-lit space, away from distraction. Your practitioner will also want to discuss any medications you may be on and your prior medical history.

In Ohio you download and print your card (you donโ€™t wait for a physical card to arrive). You cannot buy medical cannabis before you are registered and approved on the Patient & Caregiver registry and have paid your annual certification fee. Youโ€™ll receive an activation link by email.

At the moment, Ohio does not recognize other statesโ€™ medical marijuana cards. However, Ohio is working to develop a reciprocity program with states that recognize an Ohio medical marijuana identification card.

Yes. A patient or caregiver registration is valid from the date it is issued and expires one year later, on the last day of the month it was issued.

The medical marijuana card you receive through Ohioโ€™s Patient & Caregiver registry has to be renewed each year, with another Telehealth consultation with the qualified HelloMD medical practitioner. Patients will not receive an automated email from the Registry with a link to renew their registration. They will have to log into the Registry themselves, and receive a new physician recommendation.

After you receive your Patient & Caregiver Registry card, you can purchase medical marijuana from anย Ohio dispensary that has received a certificate of operation by the State of Ohio Board of Pharmacy. Only people with an active registry card, an active physician recommendation, and their associated government-issued ID can purchase medical marijuana.

A certified physician can recommend up to a 90-day supply of medical marijuana with three refills (totaling up to 360-day supply if appropriate for the patient).

Under Ohioโ€™s medical marijuana law, the forms of medical marijuana that can be dispensed include oils, tinctures, plant material, patches. Vaping is allowed, but smoking cannabis, even for medical reasons, is not.

In Ohio, dispensary staff can counsel you on the appropriate type and dose of product for your medical condition. You are allowed to buy up to a 90-day supply of cannabis, with three refills permitted after that. There are different ways to calculate what constitutes a 90-day supply. For example, 90-day equivalents might be up to eight ounces of cannabis at or below 23% THC; up to 5.3 ounces of cannabis between 23% and 35% THC; or up to 9.9 grams of THC from cannabis oil, tincture, capsules, and other edible forms.

The only way to access legal medical marijuana in Ohio is to have a medical marijuana certification from a licensed medical practitioner. Itโ€™s fast and easy to do this through the online Telehealth service HelloMD. Buying medical marijuana through a state-licensed dispensary ensures you access to a quality, lab-tested medical marijuana. Your certification also prevents you from facing fines and criminal charges due to unlawful possession.
