What are the side effects of getting high?

"What Are The Symptoms of Being High on Marijuana? "

Although some people choose to consume cannabis recreationally and get ‘high’ (feeling euphoric); medical cannabis is prescribed for its therapeutic benefits. Marijuana plant contains chemicals that may help manage symptoms of a range of illnesses. The euphoric feeling from cannabis is caused by the THC concentration in the consumed cannabis. Misuse of THC may result in cannabis intoxication. Factors like age, individual sensitivity to cannabis, cannabis strain, mode of consumption, and other factors also affect cannabis intoxication. Symptoms of cannabis intoxication include tachycardia, hypertension, hypotension, increased respiratory rate, ataxia, nystagmus, CNS depression, dysphoria, agitation, prolonged delirium, lethargy, slurred speech, hyperemesis, red eye, dry mouth, hyperkinesis, chest pain, stroke-like symptoms, etc. Some of these symptoms may require emergency room visit.

Marijuana has both short-and long-term effects on the brain. The sensation of " high" is produced by overstimulation of the brain parts that contain the highest number of CB1 receptors by THC (mainly) and a few other marijuana components (like CBN and THCV). This frequent and prolong overstimulation of the brain receptors can negatively impact cognitive and mental brain functioning especially in those whose brain is not fully developed (children teens and early adults). This impact can result in a significant decline in general knowledge, executive functioning and in verbal ability. Higher THC levels may also mean a greater risk for addiction if people are regularly exposing themselves to high doses.
